Area Information

Sydney is regarded as the business and finance centre of Australia and is host to a gamut of regional headquarters for multinational corporations. Its international business appeal stems from its climate of certainty, attractiveness to foreign investment and relatively low cost of conducting business.

While the people of New South Wales' account for just over a third of Australia's population, the State accounts for 35% (AU$223.2 billion) of the nation's real output.

Sydney's central business district is easily accessible by train, light rail, monorail, bus, ferry and car and is a 15-minute train trip from Sydney airport. It is also a popular tourist destination with the majority of international tourists having their first major stop in Sydney.

The city was also home to the "best ever" 2000 Olympic Games. As well as being home to the 2000 Olympics, Sydney is a significant economic leader in the region and continues to show the strongest and most stable potential of any major economy in the region.

The majority of leading international corporations, finance houses and investment trusts have their Australian base in Sydney, an indicator of strong economic policy and financial stability.
