Tweed Heads is located in northern New South Wales at the border of New South Wales and Queensland. The Gold Coast - Tweed is Australia's number one tourist destination, although Tweed Heads does provide a gateway to the more relaxed Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. While still driven by tourism, the Northern Region supports a diverse economy, with agriculture, timber and commercial fishing also important. The region is also undergoing a population and development boom, with the Tweed Shire population increasing by an average of 2.2% per annum over the past fives years, reaching nearly 80,000 at June 2004.
