CAIRNS - QUEENSLAND
Cairns in Far North Queensland is more than 1,800 kilometres north of Brisbane. The city is situated on the picturesque Pacific coast and has a population of 120,000 people, which is growing at an impressive 1.9% per annum. The city services a much wider region, rich in primary production and tourist activity.
It is a modern, sophisticated city; an ideal base to explore the wider region, with front door access to the Great Barrier Reef, rainforest to the north and outback country to the west. The city and the region is popular with visitors, both domestic and international.
The city itself is where much of the accommodation for the region is located, with international standard restaurants and hotels, boutique shopping, modern art galleries and a casino.
The Cairns International Airport is only a few minutes drive north of the city centre. The airport operates 24 hours a day and is the fifth busiest in Australia, in terms of short-term international passenger movements.
