Hong Kong, December 12, 2013 – CBRE Group, Inc. today announced that Dr. Henry Chin has been appointed as the firm’s new Head of Research for Asia Pacific. Dr. Chin, who will join CBRE in February, has close to 10 years’ experience in leading research and consulting roles and was most recently Pramerica Real Estate’s Head of Research and Strategy for Asia Pacific.

The appointment follows the announcement in June that CBRE’s current Head of Research for Asia Pacific, Dr. Nick Axford, had assumed a newly created role as Global Head of Research.

Rob Blain, CEO & Chairman, CBRE Asia Pacific, said Dr. Chin’s appointment followed an extensive search for the right candidate to assume the Asia Pacific leadership role and continue to advance CBRE’s position as the region’s leading real estate authority.

“Nick has built an exceptional team across the region and it was critical to find the right leader to drive our ongoing focus on producing first-class research and analysis for our clients,” Mr Blain said.

“Henry has exceptional technical and academic credentials and a deep understanding of global real estate, including direct experience of real estate research and investment management in both Europe and Asia Pacific. He will work closely with Nick and the broader Global Research team to further enhance our reputation for critical thinking and insight on commercial real estate trends worldwide.”

In his new role Dr. Chin will be based in CBRE’s Hong Kong office. He joins the firm after two and half years as Pramerica’s Head of Research and Strategy for Asia Pacific where he developed real estate investment strategies for a series of funds and investment programs, built Pramerica’s research database and developed a framework to analyze Asia Pacific real estate market trends.

Prior to that, he served as Co-Head of Real Estate, Asia Pacific, for Deutsche Bank’s Private Wealth Management division in Hong Kong; Global Real Estate and Infrastructure Strategist for a major Asian Sovereign Wealth Fund; Global Alternative Investment Strategist for RREEF - Deutsche Bank Hong Kong and Global Real Estate Strategist for RREEF – Deutsche Bank London.

Dr. Axford said; “Henry’s previous roles with leading global investment managers have provided him with a clear focus on the way in which research can and should contribute to strategic and tactical real estate decision-making. His appointment reinforces CBRE’s commitment to invest in all levels of our Research platform to further harness the market data and intelligence that exists within our organization. I am delighted that Henry is joining the team and look forward to working with him to further expand CBRE’s research and analysis capabilities across the region.”

Dr. Chin is a graduate of the National Taipei University, where he earned a BA in Land Economics and Administration. In 1999 he was awarded an M.Sc in Real Estate from the University of Reading in the UK before earning a PhD in 2004 from Oxford Brookes University in the UK.  He is Chairman of ANREV Research Committee, past Chairman and current member of APREA Research Committee, a research member of ICSC and a full time member of the Hong Kong Securities Institute (HKSI).
