The historic Campaspe House in Woodend has been purchased by the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Melbourne and Affiliated Regions.
CBRE Hotel’s Scott Callow was appointed to manage the 29 Goldies Lane property acquisition, which sold off-market.
The Woodend grounds will become the new site for the Archangel Michael Monastery for Nuns, as well as a retreat centre for women.
Located one hour’s drive north of Melbourne CBD in the Macedon Ranges, the 7.28-hectare site formerly operated as a boutique accommodation suite, comprising 16 courtyard rooms, a two-bedroom cottage, and a restored 1920s manor house with two further accommodation rooms.
Additional features of this country estate include a fully-serviced kitchen and dining room, resort style swimming pool, tennis court and croquet lawn, conference room facilities and Edna Walling styled gardens.
Mr Callow said the versatility of the site allowed for a broad range of prospective purchasers to express interest.
“General Residential Zoning was implemented to encourage a diversity of housing types, including for a range of education, recreational and community uses. Therefore, this attracted a wide range of investors to the site,” Mr Callow said.
“The Coptic Church was drawn to Campaspe House because it provides a picturesque and serene rural setting, which is ideal for monastic contemplation and reflection. The opportunity to further develop facilities, as required, was also of key importance.”
