The Uniting Church has appointed CBRE to divest its Victorian gothic style church in the inner Sydney suburb of Redfern.
Built in 1872, the heritage church is positioned on a 546sqm site at 118 Regent Street – approximately 300 metres’ from Redfern station.
Occupied by the Uniting Church Tonga Parish until recently, the property’s B4 mixed use zoning is ideal for conversion into commercial and/or residential use. The property also offers existing place of worship use rights.
Mr Vines said the property’s stunning architecture and inner city location would underpin buyer interest.
“This space is truly unique due to its gothic architecture, existing use rights as a place of worship and close proximity to the CBD,” Mr Vines explained.
“Besides its existing use a place of worship, there is also potential to split the back section of the property to create terrace housing and covert the church into office, medical, boarding house or food and beverage.”
Mr Grant said South Sydney’s appeal as an investment hotspot would attract interest in the property.
“This Victorian gothic church represents an extremely unique opportunity within the tightly held South Sydney market, with its mixed use zoning suiting owner occupiers, investors and developers,” Mr Grant said.
In 2016, CBRE negotiated the sale of a heritage church at 142 Chalmers Street in Surry Hills for $3.45 million. The property, which was previously used by a 3D media company, was purchased by an Indonesian church group.
