LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics will significantly increase its presence in the Myer Centre after leasing a new 198sqm store.
Due to open in late October, the two-level store will eclipse the adjoining 34sqm site LUSH presently occupies in the Rundle Mall centre.
CBRE’s Julia Pottenger negotiated the five-year lease on behalf of Myer Centre’s owner, Starhill Global Reit.
“This is a great success story for the Myer Centre and a positive for Rundle Mall in general,” Ms Pottenger said.
“LUSH has been trading incredibly well over the past few years from this location but had no option than to relocate to a bigger store. An opportunity presented itself on the adjoining site, formally occupied by GStar, but this was substantially bigger than their standard format store. Given the positive level of sales from the existing store the confidence was there to expand.”
The concept store design has a strong focus on sustainability, with the use of reclaimed and recycled/recyclable content. This includes reclaimed timber furniture, LED lighting and reclaimed wood from the scaffolding of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Michelle Brindle, LUSH Property Development Manager for Australia and New Zealand, said; “Customers are always first in everything we do at LUSH, and an innovative shop design is no exception. A LUSH store should feel fun and vibrant, welcoming and exciting.”
“As a brand we keep evolving and we have been growing and changing for the past 21 years, successfully continuing our journey today,” Ms Brindle added.
Colourful bath product displays are based on a fruit market look, where fruit is stacked neatly in crates. Large chunks of soap are inspired by a cheese shop in Borough market in London.
Haircare and shower products reflect old grocers, where ladders were used to reach stock stacked on high top shelves. Skincare represents an English kitchen, with a sit down table, where LUSH staff will demonstrate the products.
The store will also have a dedicated events space, a first for LUSH in Australia.
LUSH implemented its new store design in 2014 and has since relocated or refurbished 12 stores in Australia and two stores in New Zealand.
Over the next 12 months further relocations and refits are planned for LUSH stores in Kotara in NSW; Chadstone and Swanston Street in Melbourne; and Newmarket and Queen Street in Auckland.
