To gauge the retail recovery and industry outlook for 2022, CBRE conducted its third retail flash survey since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This report outlines the results from Australian respondents. Key findings include:

  • COVID has impacted trade however most respondents were confident that sales would bounce back


  • The biggest concern relating to trade in 2022 is the resumption of cross border travel


  • Retailers were planning on opening more stores and focusing their network on quality locations


  • Respondents found e-commerce was good for productivity but made it more difficult to keep customers engaged


  • Shops are becoming showrooms with more space going towards product display and click and collect


  • Prime high streets are the most sought after locations for new stores
