The impact of the pandemic on CBD retailers including occupiers and landlords has been well noted but the question remains, how have NSW retail centres fared throughout the pandemic and extended lockdowns seen throughout 2021?

CBRE Research in partnership with Pathzz, utilised a large sample of mobility signals to provide analytical insights into consumer behaviours at 50 retail centres across Greater Sydney between October 2019 and November 2021.

Analysis has shown robust levels of visitation across retail formats over the past 24 months with increased levels of activity recorded during periods of no restrictions and ‘revenge shopping’ behaviours of customers as they were released from home confinements . This report takes a deeper look into the changing consumer behaviours and demographic trends seen across our retail centres.

Opportunities remain for retailers, landlords and government to work collaboratively on activation strategies to bring life back into our CBD centres including taking advantage of new initiatives.
