We’re passionate about the part we can play in strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.

‘Closing the gap’ through education and employment opportunities helps to drive a more inclusive workforce. The CBRE Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) does just this and focuses on how CBRE can contribute to greater economic empowerment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Sitting under our Pacific DEI Steering Committee, our RAP working group oversees the implementation of activities and initiatives that increase our cultural awareness and inclusion.

We believe these activities will provide our people with deeper social consciousness, improve how we meet community needs and help build a vibrant and socially responsible business sector.

Our RAP pillars

Acknowledgement

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, knowledge and rights, by offering training and resources on cultural protocols, supporting a First Nations Employee Network and engaging First Nations employees in our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Awareness

We educate ourselves and our clients on the challenges, gaps and opportunities for creating a connected and collaborative Australia, through a range of learning programs and modules for all employees.
Equity

We create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through business, education and employment opportunities, including by striving to increase our spend with First Nations-owned businesses.

Where are we in our reconciliation journey in 2025?

CBRE continues to progress the commitments and actions outlined in the Innovate RAP that was published in 2024.

Following the success of our initial three-year partnership, CBRE extended its sponsorship of NRL Cowboys House for a further two years.

CBRE’s engagement with First Nations businesses continues to grow, with the appointment of Killara Services as the cleaning provider for our new Mount Gravatt office in Queensland. Killara joins the likes of Kulbardi, Keighran Legal + Advisory, Mob Jobs and Recruitflex as corporate partners.

First Nations firms DLG Shape, Willing Creations and Orana Commercial also played key roles in the refurbishment of CBRE’s flagship Pacific office in the Sydney CBD.

We have undertaken cultural safety work, strengthened our policies to better support anti-discrimination, created support programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates and employees to enhance career paths.

Our reconciliation journey

CBRE published our third Innovate RAP, featuring artwork from NRL Cowboys House-based students Destiny Escott and Fredrick Mick.

"Our artwork represents CBRE’s connections between the land, the people, and the places where they do business,” they say of the artwork.

“The background illustrates a cross-section of Australia as if seen from above like a bird, starting from the East Coast, crossing the Great Dividing Range, passing Uluru, and extending all the way to the West Coast.

“For us, Uluru is a symbol that represents the heart of Australia, so it was important for us to include it as part of the land. Layered on top of this are 13 meeting points, symbolising the 13 CBRE mini-communities (offices) across Australia.

“These are interconnected by journey lines, representing life, major rivers, and the ways people connect. We have incorporated animal tracks to signify movement, choosing two iconic Australian animals, the emu and the kangaroo, to represent leaving and going.”

Our spend with First Nations suppliers across CBRE and client requirements grew to AU$22.8m for the calendar year, a 49% year-on-year increase, engaging a total of 45 businesses.

We deepened our relationship with Cowboys House further with visits and activations, including the artwork for our RAP, a student print art auction and engaging in the fundraising activation of the golf day.

We created a number of resources to assist employees acknowledge and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture appropriately.

We launched a dedicated employee group for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees. Known as Mob Connect, the employee network is a platform to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, help welcome new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees to our company and provide strategic advice to the business from a First Nations perspective.

We marked Indigenous Business Month 2023 with a pair of webinars, in which we yarned leading First Nations partners including Killara Services, IPS Management Consultants, Dice Australia, Eon Protection and Wildflower Gardens for Good.

As part of our focus on opportunities to make a meaningful community impact, CBRE became a foundation partner for a new women’s empowerment program, Sistas Stand Strong, at NRL Cowboys House. Through the Sistas Stand Strong Program, the young women at Cowboys House have had access to experts and guest speakers, workshops on topics such as self-awareness and emotional intelligence; success and happiness; stereotypes and body image - identifying personal and professional pathways for success in whatever they choose to do.

Our new Pacific Supplier Diversity Program established a fresh framework for how we engage with and support diverse suppliers in our supply chain. It includes development and mentoring elements to help grow our network of Indigenous suppliers.

We doubled our targeted spend with Diverse Suppliers across Australia and New Zealand, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses and social enterprises.

We engaged a RAP advisor to assist with cultural knowledge and understanding.

CBRE published its second Innovate RAP, covering 2021-2023.

Globally, CBRE announced a pledge to spend US$1 billion with diverse suppliers in 2021, and to grow this spend to AU$3 billion in five years. In Australia, this group includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses and social enterprises.

We launched the CBRE Indigenous Centre of Excellence (ICOE), with the aim of increasing supply chain diversity and connecting Indigenous organisations with business opportunities through CBRE and its client base throughout Australia.

The winners of our flagship Circle of Excellence awards celebrated their achievements with a three-day cultural experience in Uluru, learning about the history and culture of Uluru and Kata Tjuta from traditional owners of the land.

With the publication of our second Reconciliation Action Plan, we progressed to an Innovate RAP.

CBRE became a member of Supply Nation, connecting our procurement team and clients with more than 1,900 verified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses to build a prosperous, vibrant and sustainable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business sector.

We developed and published our maiden Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, in conjunction with our newly-formed Reconciliation Working Group.

We began our partnership with CareerTrackers, a national non-profit that creates pathways and support systems for Indigenous young adults in secondary and tertiary schooling, who want to graduate from university with industry experience, and welcomed our first paid intern.
