The Healthcare sector comprises $270bn of spend, growing at +3.5%pa. For real estate investors, there are opportunities across the stack including R&D labs, medical manufacturing, hospitals, medical offices, medical centres and warehousing.
We undertook a deeper dive into the Life Sciences component, comprising firms involved in R&D, contract research/trials and medical manufacturing:
- Australia hosts approx 1,500 pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, 55 medical research institutes and 40 universities focused on clinical research
- Collectively, the sector employs ~275,000 staff
- The vast majority of occupiers are located in a cluster of health precincts
- Melbourne and Sydney account for nearly 3/4th of occupier activity
To help occupiers and investors, we have mapped the location of ~130 large organisations across Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, with a focus on R&D, contract research/trials and medical manufacturing.
